MP Vikram Sahney recalls tragic loss of his family members during 1984 riots
On the anniversary of the anti – Sikh genocide of 1984 Member of Parliament from Punjab Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney recalled the barbaric and inhuman attack on the Sikh community by rampaging mobs to revenge the assassination of the then Prime Minister of India Ms. Indira Gandhi.
Dr. Sahney stated that his entire eternal family was brutally burnt alive in their paint factory at Paharganj, New Delhi. He was to board the Punjab Mail from Kotkapura same night to come to Delhi to present a programme “Yuva Vani” on All India Radio. His father after hearing the news of stone pelting on the car of President of India, Giani Zail Singh advised him not to travel. Thus, he saved his life as every Sikh who travelled on the trains during 1-2 November were brutally massacred.
“I distinctly remember that the dead bodies of four of my cousins brought at home and my Taya Ji also gave up his life due to this miserable shock.” said Dr. Sahney
Dr. Sahney also stated that the genocide was all pre-planned as he recall thousands of similar type of rods and white power being used to kill and burn the property of the Sikhs. Even hardcore criminals from the Jails were released to kill the Sikh fraternity, rape Sikh girls, put burning tyres around the neck of Sikhs. It was indeed a terrible genocide of a catastrophic proportion which can never be imagined. The cruelty and ruthless killing of innocent Sikhs was at the peak.
Dr. Sahney also said that It is an irony that FIRs were not being registered as police was hand in glove with the political leaders who were competing with each other to prove their loyalty by killing maximum number of Sikh men and women.
Dr. Sahney said that it is deeply painful to note that even after 40 years, justice still remains elusive. Not even a single person have been sentenced to death or presented for life imprisonment for committing such a heinous crime. Justice delayed is justice denied.
